Wentworth is probably the only village in the country to have its own parliamentary constituency.

Actually the constituency covers a much wider area than Wentworth – taking in many parts of Rotherham. We assume that the constituency name has been retained for historical reasons connected with the political activities of the Wentworth family (see History). If anyone can enlighten us as to the reason this name is still used please get in touch.

The Wentworth MP is currently John Healey (Labour). You can contact him at:-

Constituency Office
79 High Street
Wath upon Dearne
Rotherham
S63 7QB

T: (01709) 875943

Also, he can be contacted through the House of Commons:

House of Commons
London
SW1A 0AA

Mr. Healey occasionally holds constituency surgeries in the village.

Further information, including advice surgery times, can be found at johnhealeymp.co.uk

If it ever features on the national conscience, South Yorkshire is almost always shown as an industrial wasteland of closed down steel mills and coal mines (witness films such as “The Full Monty” and “Brassed Off”). First time visitors are often surprised to find that there is actually a lot of very fine open countryside in the county, and the area around Wentworth is no exception.

Rotherham Council do a good job of promoting walking in the area, and the various footpaths are well signposted. Many of the footpaths were closed during the recent Foot & Mouth crisis, but they are now starting to reopen. Leaflets of local walks are available from Rotherham Central Library and copies can sometimes be found in local pubs and shops. Our map shows some of the rights of way centerd on the village.

Whatever the time of year, a walk around the Wentworth area is very rewarding.
