Would it ever be possible to have a guided tour inside the house? My 4th, Great Grandfather, John Salkeld, was head painter to the Estate from 1769 to 1820. I have copies of work he did, inside the house, taken from the Wentworth/Woodhouse Muniments held at the Archives in Sheffield. I would dearly love to see some of the places where he worked.

Note for Sarah Chapman.

The most local airport is Leeds Bradford but this is still a good way from Wentworth. Anything close to the M1 is handy so that leaves East Midlands also. Wentworth is situated about 5 miles from Junction 36 of the M1. Hope that helps. Its well worth a visit - a beautiful place and Wentworth Garden Centre offers a lovely slab of homebaked cake! Delicious. Hope you have a lovely time.

Kimm, the outside of the house is visible and is very impressive, and Sarah, the nearest airports are Doncaster/Sheffield (though flights are limited and I am not sure if they fly to Ireland) or others about an hour/hour and a half away - Leeeds/Bradford, Manchester, or East Midlands.

Hi, I wonder if there is anyone living in Wentworth who knew of my mother. She was born there in 1908 and I know her father worked at Wentworth Woodhouse. I believe that by the time she was 13, both of her parents had died and she was subsequently brought down to Torquay to live. She had a brother called Alan, who was a gardener. She also had a sister Nellie who was a nurse. Another sister was called Kitty and there was another one whose name escapes me, oh and another brother George.. My mother was called Maud Elizabeth Fisher.

It would be good to track some relatives down. Thanks. Cherry Parish
